Each student in the Music Production class is responsible to create a track for possible inclusion on the annual holiday CD, Parkland: A Season for Giving, produced by the class. Your track may be one of the following:
A unique, attractive arrangement of a public domain holiday or winter tune (i.e. "Jingle Bells," "Hark the Herald Angels Sing," "Chanukah, O Chanukah," etc.). This may be entirely instrumental or with vocal(s).
An original holiday or winter song, instrumental or with vocal(s).
WITH PERMISSION: A recording of one of the PHS large ensembles (Concert Band, Symphonic Band, Jazz Band, Chorus, Chorale, String Orchestra) performing a holiday/winter selection. Since this will probably be "protected" music (not public domain), you will have to have the work cleared by either getting the copyright holder to waive their mechanical royalty, or petition the class to use our meager budget to license the work and pay the mechanical royalty. Each year, we usually only allow one work such as this.
This is a big project, for which you'll receive lots of points, but it can be divided into stages:
PRE-PRODUCTION. This involves developing and understanding of the project, what is expected of you, doing some listening (past projects and other holiday/winter music), searching for the "right" tune to develop, and - in most cases - pairing it with a GROOVE.
Creating YOUR TRACK. This is the nuts and bolts which involves arranging, tracking (recording separate players, including yourself), mixing, and mastering. We'd like to include every track on the CD, but here are no guarantees. Only music that meets a certain production standard will be included.
Playing YOUR PART IN THE BUSINESS end of producing the CD. Everyone has gifts and strengths to offer and we can use them all. Music Production is a LOT more than moving mixer sliders, and you'll be finding that out!
